THEIR subjective POV, "neccessary" to THEIR survival, not OURS. The eternal risk to self-alleged "public servants" is they can be and are summarily fired when they develop "self-interest", at odds with and, in direct opposition to the interests of their employers (those who actually pay, not CONTROL their salaries).
THEIR basic problem is that, in their futile quest for "better arguments" regarding their "neccessity", IS THAT: nobody is listening, most (by educational subversion) are incapable of analayzing rational arguments and, virtually nobody BELIEVES a word THEY say, anyway.
The intelligent ARE listening and THINKING:

It would be helpfull if the sign-in box for feedbacking was scrollable. At the print size I zoom to, the sign in button is out of the box and can not be reached by scrolling. The only way to get to it is by zooming out.
Other users should comment if they have the same trouble so DB can tell if this is something that should be fixed.
As to Stiglitz, what would you expect from a Keynsian, repudiation of everything that got him where he is today? It's tough on an economist. If you tell the truth, government/big brother, the single biggest and best employer of economists don't want to hear it. It's the best government money can buy.
If the internet gets too efficient at revealing the truth, that money will buy the end of the internet too. If freedom gets too popular, it will be stamped out, in order to protect us, of course.

How is it going dear Sirs?
I would like to build an argument for a fundamental shift in the 'polarity' as it were of the Human hive mind using the world view that we have developed and are so proud of (I am anyway) here at TDB hopefully culminating in the realization that this Internet reformation would not just set the elites back by a couple of decades but change the landscape of our world for the good for a long time to come.
The sheer grandness of reality is lost in the discussions in the mainstream; the mundane is echoed over and above everything else. Ideas and concepts (which to a keen observer are self-evident, through experience that is) that require a shift in perception are ridiculed, distorted and raped over and over enough number of times for the essence of the truth to blow out and throw the being back into a state of chaos, of eternal fear and looking without (as opposed to within) for answers.
The fundamental shift in polarities that 2012 marks will bring about more of such enlightened discussion forums where more and more people will be able to first- free their mind from the junk of mainstream fear machine secondly- to focus their mind and through it their energies on the vibrations of love and peace that we all are naturally attuned to pickup. It is after all what makes us happy.
I would like to humbly point out to my fellow feedbackers as well as the editors of TDB that it has become imperative that we start pin-pointing our attention on the good vibrations (thank you beach boys) that our mother, the great mother is emanating with tremendous ferocity. It would help us to see visions that are beyond our logical, analytical two-dimensional mind and bring about changes that would leave the great families of the recent past in the dust for all of their birth cycles(you know who I mean, the men in charge of the three cities that have all the power today)
The articles that so effortlessly rip apart through all the dirt and lies of the power elite are all well and good, but we know that already!! Our time would be much better spent if we start picking up positive news stories that really starts expanding our worldview now that we know what was distorting it all throughout. This is a chance to align our energy with the source of all the energies and through that, the universe itself. Regarding "And how, exactly, are 'we' supposed to 'throw the elites off the boat'?" is it only a matter of time before an oppressed opposition realise they have to copy cat the establishment and start targeting prominent leading presidential and prime ministerial figures personally in the field, leading those fields which are causing the conflicts and which need to be altered and stopped. Pretty soon then do followers and supporters start to realise the error of their ways and the consequences of their actions.
And it eliminates all that expensive collateral damage too, when precision takes over from a scatter gun/carpet bombing approach to conflict resolution, but I would never recommend it whenever intelligence engaged can always find a solution for practising a beta program.
However, whenever that novel futuristic intelligence option is not made available to many, is the age old primitive decider the more likely course of executive extreme prejudice action more to be expected from the more sophisticated of the hit and martyrdom brigades if running is not a viable alternative. At least then would the innocent peoples of the world not suffer the folly of fools to the extent that they do so now.
You know it makes perfect sense too.

Thanks for the info, runderwo, ...... but one must always be prepared for everyone knowing everything about what one is doing and has done.
What one is going to do is in the land of fantasy and make believe though, and can never be accurately predicted, no matter how many algorithms one would wield and wheel out to try and prove a possible second and third party course of action was certain and/or likely.
Which is why I suppose there are so many cases of active government entrapment with agents posing as active criminal collaborators in fantastic plots to justify the course of their actions and scare more shekels out of puppet governments and police states and fascist administrations.
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and there aint no mistake in that.
